Learn to Lead Early and Get Ahead!!
48In the Beginning... Practice Practice Practice
In starting this wonderful hub I thought I'd reflect back on how I got started to get ahead in life. I really did not do it intentionally but inadvertently by knowing I wanted more than what the family could afford when I was about 10 years old.
So I learned to practice, a lot. I practiced solving math problems, a lot. It wasn't just solving the problem correctly, but it was how fast I could do it. I entered contests. I won competitions. And I kept practicing, because I knew the 2nd place winner wanted to beat me next year.
But then, I got comfortable and cauky. Not good. Even though I was queen bee math goddess in middle school, I wasn't so much in high school.
However, one thing I did learn, to get me to the next place in life (which was getting into the right college to set the stage for my career life), I started to diversify early. Interests. Studies. Doing good. Taking on things I was afraid of, like public speaking. And practiced in all the areas, some of which I sucked at and gave up (though I should have stuck with golf!) and some, well, led me to more championships, wonderful opportunities, and the chance for an education of a lifetime.
It's never too late to begin to practice - but find what you LOVE to do and practice it as much as you can. Become known for it and you will do amazing things.
